Aleksander Zniszczoł finished eighth and Dawid Kubacki was 23rd in Saturday's Ski Jumping World Cup competition in Willingen. Kamil Stoch and Piotr Żyła were eliminated after the first series. The winner was Norway's Johann Andre Forfang, who broke the Muehlenkopfschanze record with a jump of 155.5 m in the second round.
Since Friday's qualifying, where he reached 153 m, Forfang is the hill record holder together with Klemens Muranka. On Saturday, in the first round of the competition, the Norwegian jumped 144 m and won with a total score of 252.7 points. Second place went to Ryoyu Kobayashi of Japan, who reached 128 and 148 m, giving him 221.7 points. The third, Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal from Norway, shot at distances of 138 m and 150 m and scored 219.9 points.
This is Forfang's first win at the World Cup since December 2018 and the competition in Nizhny Tagil.
Finland's Antti Aalto took the lead after the first round with a jump of 147.5 m, but he was unable to withstand the pressure. In the second attempt, he only scored 128 m and dropped to 14th place.
Zniszczoł jumped 145.5 and 130 m, thanks to which he collected 210.7 points. Kubacki earned a score of 186 points after jumping at 130 m and 134.5 m, Stoch was 43rd, and Żyła was 48th.
For the first time this season, the Polish representative entered the top ten of the World Cup competition. Zniszczoł halted a poor streak that had lasted for 15 competitions and started at the end of the previous season.
Stefan Kraft from Austria did not advance to the second series and only finished 39th. The leader of the World Cup general classification has 1,089 points. Behind him are Germany's Andreas Wellinger (851) and Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi (816). The highest-ranked Polish player, in 24th place, was Żyła, who collected 117 points. The next places are occupied by Kubacki (116), Zniszczoł (99) and Stoch (89).
The second individual competition will take place on Sunday at 16:10 at the Muehlenkopfschanze. This will be preceded by a qualifier in which Paweł Wąsek, who is battling flu, may take part. Previously, the women's competition will be held in Willingen with the participation of Anna Twardosz.
