3.5 million to supervise TVP’s “Wiadomości”. “They are the apple of my eye.” We disclosed the Comptroller’s Office report
The 10 highest paid TVP employees earned a total of PLN 9 million in 2022 alone, and Jarosław Olechowski, who was in charge of “Wiadomości”, earned more than PLN 3.5 million over three years – according to the post-audit report of the TVP Supreme Audit Office, obtained from the tvn24.pl portal. TVP’s former president, Jacek Kurski, testified at the Supreme Audit Office that he approved the rates because “through ‘Wiadomości'” he himself “judged them based on political factors.”
Since November 2022, the Supreme Audit Agency has been monitoring the way TVP manages public funds. The audit covers the period early 2021. TVP is supported not only by revenue from license fees and the advertising it broadcasts, but also by funds from the state budget, which it receives as “compensation for the loss of license fee revenue”. Despite huge financial costs, its operations last year incurred losses of more than PLN 50 million.
In a post-audit statement obtained by the tvn24.pl portal, the Supreme Audit Agency “assessed negatively the activities of Telewizja Polska SA in the period covered by the audit.” The chamber stressed in the document that TVP’s “HR and payroll policies as well as the area of contract settlement are affected by various deficiencies and irregularities.” The best-paid employees receive millions, but at the same time, as determined by the Supreme Audit Agency, companies must compensate employees whose salaries are below the minimum wage.
According to a tvn24.pl interlocutor close to TVP, the results of the inspection raised concerns among the management of the state television station. – The inspectors are very thorough and know how much the biggest stars earn. It’s strange that they haven’t announced the results of this inspection, our informant said.
