The NM relay went according to plan despite the bitter cold – a little below freezing

Organizers took the decision to carry out the race after a jury meeting on Sunday morning. Previously, temperature measurements were taken which showed a number of degrees chilly which means you stay slightly within 18 which is the limit for sprint races.

At 8 o’clock, minus 18.6 degrees was measured at the coldest point on the trail. Then the organizers chose to postpone the implementation decision. At 10 o’clock, the corresponding cold measurement shows 17.9 degrees at coldest.

In this way, the process is kept with the smallest possible margin.

At the same time, the organizers stated that temperature trends will be closely monitored until the start of the men’s relay at 13.30. The women’s relay starts at 11.

Canceled Saturday

On Saturday, freezing weather led to the cancellation of the Vind ski stadium. Then the joint started with a whistle blowing ski change for the NM organizers.

Ahead of Sunday’s relay, several steps have been taken in hopes of carrying out the race as planned. In consultation with the Norwegian Ski Association, race management has opted to shorten the route to be used to 2.5 kilometers.

The aim is that runners do not have to cross the section of the track where the lowest temperature was measured on Saturday.

– We have a river valley, where it is always cold. This is a rather critical point, race director Ole Henrik Evensen told NTB on Saturday.

Just classic

In addition to shortening the route, the plan is also for the three stages of the NM relay to be carried out in a classic style. The launch start time was also pushed back to noon in the hope that temperatures would increase by then.

The women’s relay was supposed to start as early as 9 o’clock.

Strindheim is the reigning champion on the women’s side, while Lyn has the same status on the men’s side.
