— Russian and Belarusian propaganda was impressed by the film “The Green Border” by Agnieszka Holland. Local newspapers and portals appreciated the film for showing how Polish Border Guards, quoted here, “tortured and killed people.” Meanwhile, there was another attack on Polish officers at the border, said Marta Kielczyk, the edition’s editor, in a publication announcement by Konrad Wąż and Piotr Domański. At that time, there was a strip on the screen with the words “Putin and Lukashenko happy with Holland’s film”.

The material was inspired by the situation on September 9, when, as the Border Guard reported, “a group of seven people in Belarusian uniforms with masks on their faces, on the other side of the border, threw stones at a Polish patrol. These people had slingshots and flashlights that blinded the patrol.” This was also reported by Snake at the beginning of the publication.
Then the TVP employee added that attacks on the Polish-Belarusian border have been going on for more than two years and noted that the majority of Polish citizens positively assess the work of our services in this region. – However, there are people who speak the language of Lukashenko and Putin when defending Poland’s borders – said Wąż, turning to a Dutch film.
— The Netherlands paints a false picture of the Polish Border Guard as a formation that brutally pacifies immigrants — Wąż said and pointed out that the “Green Border” had been noticed by Belarusian and Russian propaganda. He remembered the words of Przemysław Fogel, a PiS politician. The ruling camp has been speaking in similar tones about Dutch production for several weeks.
Russian and Belarusian media wrote that the Dutch film showed the despicable practices of Border Guards on the border with Belarus. Snake said that previous opposition politicians had been part of this narrative, including: Donald Tusk. It was also reminded, among other things, that the opposition opposes the construction of a wall on the border.
Statements by politicians associated with the United Right also sound similar to Snake propaganda material. This is an element of the campaign against the director. The attackers admitted that they had not seen the film, but only the trailer. In early September, Attorney General Zbigniew Ziobro commented with embarrassing words about the interview Holland gave to “Newsweek”.
“In the Third Reich, Germany produced propaganda films depicting Poles as bandits and murderers. Today they have Agnieszka Holland for that…” wrote Ziobro on the X platform. The director announced he would take legal action.
This is just one of the posts aimed at the Netherlands by Right Unity politicians. Stanisław Żaryn, plenipotentiary for the security of the information space of the Republic of Poland, wrote that the “Green Border” was part of Belarusian and Russian propaganda.
“Propaganda materials on this occasion spread lies about Poland imposing death sentences, against the truth about what happened on the Polish-Belarusian border and about the Border Guard’s ‘Nazi’ practices. Lukashenko’s propaganda appreciates the content of the Dutch film because it contains messages consistent with the information activities of Belarus and Russia against Poland,” we read on the X platform.
TVP’s “Wiadomości” makes no mention of the fact that Holland’s film received appreciation from international critics and won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice festival. It was in Italy that “The Green Border” held its world premiere, and was very warmly received not only by experts, but also by the audience.
— This was not an easy film to make, as some might imagine, perhaps not. Thank you to the entire team, producers and co-producers. The migration crisis has been brewing in Europe since 2014. We are here today and the situation is still ongoing. People are in the forest, some are stripped of their dignity, some are dying. And it’s not that we don’t have the resources, Holland said from the Venice stage, holding the award in his hand.

This film shows the drama of Syrian refugees from various points of view – both from border guards and the activists who help them. Holland’s film will be released in Polish cinemas on September 22. He, among other things, called for a boycott of the screening of the film. The Vistula Border Guard Unit used the phrase “Only pigs sit in cinemas” on social media. During the German occupation, this slogan was intended to prevent Poles from participating in the cultural life controlled by the Third Reich. During World War II, Germany chose what repertoire would be shown in Polish cinemas.
The attack targeting the Netherlands translated into a “Green Border” rating on the website Filmweb has an average film rating of above 5.5 thousand. sound, only 2.5. A large number of evaluators have not seen the production.
