Snow is on its way to northern Norway. Then winter tires must be used, at least that’s what Tromsøværingen thinks.
On Monday, meteorologists warned of snow in Troms and Finnmark. Traditionally, this has led to the influx of many deck hotels in Tromsø.
One of the city’s biggest tire hotels, Dekkteam, said they had been brought down by panicked Tromsø væringer residents on Monday. Everyone will change winter tires.
And everyone receives messages they would rather not have.
– We have been underestimated, things have become very chaotic. It happens every year. People are bad at planning. “Everyone has been told that we have no free time,” Dekkteam Tromsø general manager Stian Johannessen told VG.
Johannessen and colleagues. it was fully booked two weeks ago. This means that Tromsø residents will have to change their own tires, or be without a car for a short time.
– People just need to calm down and leave the car. The snow that comes will not last, it will never exist in the world. If we breathe through our stomach, this is possible, says Johannessen.
Never fails
This happens every year in Tromsø, according to the deck hotel in Tromsø. Meteorologists warned of the first snowfall of autumn, and Tromsø weather experts took drastic measures to change their tires.
On the other hand, those who have lived in Tromsø for some time know that the first snow never falls well. In the worst case, there will be snow on the ground for several days.
– Everyone waits until the last minute to change a tire, no one can go wrong. We had a great summer, then it snowed. Some people accept this happily, and know they can take it easy, says Johannessen.
Stay cool
Even though a snow warning has been issued, meteorologists are not stressed by the traffic chaos in Paris in the Nordic region.
The meteorologist in charge, Per Egil Haga, said it was understandable that people reacted this way to the snow news. He himself would probably have a little ice cream in his stomach.
– If you’re just driving around town, chances are there won’t be any major challenges. There is almost no white coating on the road. If you are in doubt, the safest way is to change. However, I want to have ice cream in my stomach.
It is at this altitude that snow can settle. So those who will drive through mountain passes should change their tires.
– There may be a winter feel on the road, and I will probably change the tires myself. Snow started falling on Wednesday, and may last until Sunday. If you’re not sure, it’s better to shelter for the winter, meteorologists conclude.
The whole city will be on the highway
Vianor in Tromsø has also been reduced on Monday. It was clear that the snow came as a surprise to the people of Tromsø.
– I think the whole city will go for a walk on Wednesday. “We try to trick and patch as best we can, and it usually works out well,” said General Manager Mette Ahlquist.
Vianor has a tire hotel that accommodates almost 3,000 cars. They are fully booked for the next two weeks, and working from early morning until late at night.
– We more or less live at work. Snow fell like Christmas Eve on the old woman. We try to make the most of it, and often succeed, Ahlquist concludes.
For those changing their own tires, here’s a well-meaning tip: Remember to tighten the nuts.
In Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, studded tires can only be used from and including 16 October up to and including 30 April. However, if the driver requires it, it is permissible to use studded tires beyond that date.
