News On October 10, we celebrate World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme is: “Mental health is a universal human right.”
Event initiator – World Health Organization (WHO) and World Mental Health Federation – pays special attention to the fact that throughout the world, people suffering from mental illness continue to experience human rights violations, such as exclusion from social life and discrimination.
According to the World Mental Health Federation, in the coming years mental disorders will become one of the main health problems affecting humanity. With the development of civilization, more and more people suffer from mental illness. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the number of people affected by mental health disorders is currently almost 10 percent 800 million.
One of the social assistance organization units that handles people with disabilities including mental disorders includes: District Community Self-Help Center in Pleszew located at ul.Kazimierza Wielkiego 7b.
– 63 disabled people with various illnesses and ages receive support at home. Every day, a group of 18 people consisting of: therapist, caregiver, physiotherapist, nurse, social worker, driver and housekeeper creates conditions for the development of social competence and skills, improvement of health and psychomotor activity, as well as comprehensive development that allows independence of perhaps in everyday life – for example home workers.
The basic activities carried out by the employees of the District Community Self-Help Center are complemented by activities carried out in collaboration with the Association of Development Centers in Pleszew. Regency Community Self-Help Center and Development Center Association in Pleszew.
One of the latest projects created on the initiative of the employees of the District Community Self-Help Center in Pleszew is the project entitled EMOTIONS IN THE HEAD financed by the Ministry of Family and Social Policy as part of the 2023 edition of the “From Dependence to Independence” competition. As part of the project, people with disabilities carry out manual classes, including, making decorations on cotton bags, embroidery, including the diamond mosaic method , jewelry design and manufacturing. Financial resources in the project also contributed to equipping a relaxation room, purchasing board games and Nordic walking poles, as well as equipment for holding culinary classes: a multifunctional food processor, a frying pan, a waffle iron, a popcorn and candy floss machine.
