Ukraine is grateful for UEFA’s decision to change Russia’s case
The Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) is grateful that the European Football Association (UEFA) is still not open to the Russian U17 national team in the future.
“Fortunately, Ukraine and the UAF’s position was heard,” the UAF wrote in its statement.
UAF vice-president Vadym Kostyuchenko stated that he expressed his views on the matter at the UEFA committee on October 4.
– There should be no compromise in this matter. We must understand that this may not be Russia’s last attempt to regain its position on the international football scene. Therefore, we are ready, if necessary, to continue fighting for the continuation of Russian exclusion, Kostyuchenko said.
On Tuesday, it became known that UEFA canceled plans to open the doors to the Russian U17 team.
In late September, UEFA took a different stance towards Russia, which had been banned from competitions since the invasion of Ukraine. A prerequisite for the possibility of opening a U17 team is that the match with the Russian team must be played without the flag, anthem or uniform of the Russian national team. No matches were played on Russian soil either.
“No technical solution has been found to allow the Russian team,” UEFA said in a press release on Tuesday. (NTB)
