Spejbla and Hurvínek Theater starts the new season and is pleased to announce some interesting news and events that will be part of it. For rock fans of the legendary doll duo, the number one event is the new release of the successful LP “Hurvínkova stráshidylka”, whose patrons are actresses Veronika Arichteva and Anna Polívková. This season, the theater will also see opera, and audiences can look forward to Smetana’s famous “Prodanka” in a completely new performance by Spejbl and Hurvínek. The show “Hurvínek sells brides” will be presented with the support of both partners Přerost and Švorc – auto and Best Western Hotel Moran. How are puppets run and what puppets do we know? All of this will be explored and studied by audiences young and old during the weekend puppetry workshops. And at the end of the season, a very interesting project with Radim Vizváry is coming. The new season full of fun and education was presented by S+H Theater at a press conference on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, usually led by moderator Štěpánka Duchková.
Hurvínek sells brides
An outstanding title in 2023 is the Spejbla and Hurvínek Theater co-production project and Brno National Theatre’s Janáček Opera called “Hurvínek sells brides”. Smetana The Bartered Bride is one of the iconic opera works. Opera Janáček in collaboration with S+H Theater decided this time to bring it closer to children. “And because comic opera is supposed to be a lot of fun, the members of the Janáček Opera NdB troupe invited the best conductors among themselves. In a new family event, you do Selling brides and the famous puppet characters Spejbl, Hurvínek and Mánička and the dog Žeryk will be introduced directly into the world of opera.” explain Denisa Kirschnerová, director of Spejbla and Hurvínek Theatre.
In the production, the audience will have the opportunity to see a classic opera presented in a fun and entertaining way, with characters from the opera, in which the principal soloists of the opera Janáček Jana Šrejma Kačírková, Pavla Vykopalová, Jan Šťáva, Ondřej Koplík and many others will appear Alone. In addition, the musical experience will be enhanced by Smetánov’s special mini orchestra.
The author of the project is Patricie Částková, Ondrej Olos will take care of the musical production, Hana Mikolášková will direct it, with David Janošek set.
The premiere took place on 24 November 2023 at the Reduta Theater in Brno, and the Prague premiere will take place on 16 March 2024 at the S+H Theatre.

Hurvínek’s Ghost on LP
There is good news for fans of Spejbl and Hurvínek’s audio recordings. Supraphon has prepared a reissue of the LP “Hurvínk’s Haunter”, which is one of S + HHH Theatre’s most awarded audio titles. This recording was first released in 1978. “The Ghost of Hurvínek is one of the most popular recordings from the series of Spejbl and Hurvínek stories that we have published. It features the legendary voices of Miloš Kirschner and František Filipovský. This reissue will feature remastered audio and newly added archive photos as well as accompanying text on the LP’s inner sleeve.” says Alan Piskač, chief spoken word producer at Supraphon. New recording of “Hurvínka’s Haunting” on LP on sale from October 6, 2023.
A new work of children’s theater
After the very successful introduction of the first children’s theater (for children aged 1 to 3 years) into the theater’s repertoire with the production “Žeryčka, HOP!”, writer and director Janka Ryšánek Schmiedtová comes up with a new title: “Hurvink Sea of Dreams”, where Hurvínek will be the protagonist this time. This initiative will expand program offerings with other titles from this dramaturgy track. In addition to the incredible puppetry, original music from the workshop of award-winning original music composer Vladivojna La Chii will be a big attraction.

Radim Vizváry and S + H Theater are preparing a new project
The final title of the 2023/2024 season is a new production created and directed by Radim Vizváry, an outstanding Czech theater creator, Thália Prize winner, mime, and artistic director of Laterna magiky Radim Vizváry. I love Vizvar is an extraordinary artistic personality who transcends genre with his complexity, fragility and, most importantly, sensitive perception of the world through the theater of movement. “For S+H Theatre, he is preparing a charming family production for audiences aged 4 and up, in which Hurvínek will look for ways to give voice to his inner voice, while perceptively discovering the world with all his senses and experiencing many magical adventures in the theater. process.” presented by the theater’s artistic director David Janošek.
What knowledge about himself and the world around Hurvínek will he come to know? How important are our inner and outer voices and who are we when we lose them? All this and more will be revealed by Radim Vizváry in collaboration with Spejbla Theater and Hurvínek in the upcoming production.
Weekend puppet workshops
Since the new season, the Spejbla and Hurvínek Theater has expanded its experiential workshop offer weekend doll workshop. Compared with school experience workshops, the duration is extended to 60 minutes. Thanks to this novelty, weekend audiences will have the opportunity to see the magical world of puppetry behind the curtain.
The biggest attraction of this workshop is the backstage tour with the opportunity to get to know the stage area that the audience usually doesn’t get to see, meet the puppets who usually appear in the show, learn what puppetry is. the terminology, and the most important thing is to try for yourself what kind of work a puppeteer involves. Visitors have the opportunity to find out what a rocker is, who is called a speaker in the theater, where the catwalk stands, and last but not least, try working with various types of puppets so they can get to know one’s work in detail. mastermind. The workshop is led by a lecturer, puppeteer and members of the acting troupe Karolina Fiala with many years of experience not only on the Czech stage, but also on foreign stages.
Weekend workshops are aimed at both small and large audiences from 6 years, while the maximum workshop capacity is 16 visitors.
