A while ago Øya hit the big drum and announced the first two names for Wednesday August 7th, Pulp and PJ Harvey. Now they are following it up with a strong mok release with gunpowder until Friday 9 August.

Friday ends with power rockers Queens of the Stone Age on our biggest stage. Friday vibes guaranteed, if you ask us! This will be their first concert in Oslo in over ten years, and their only concert in 2024. Plus, on the same day you’ll get Big Thief and Wednesday favorites Øya. QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE (USA)

Queens of the Stone Age are in top form and come to Tøyenparken to finish off Friday night. Their eighth studio album In Times New Roman… was released in summer 2023, and is their first album in six years. This is the third disc in a row to be nominated at the Grammy for best rock album. Of its release, NME wrote that “it is his darkest and most complex material to date, and will be all the more appreciated for it”.

Bandleader Josh Homme has had a steady staff over the past ten years, continuing the band’s signature alternation between the catchy and the dark. Together they play modern hard rock, mixed with influences from kraut, electronica, and underground music. Among former members and individual album contributors, there is an impressive network of famous musicians.

The band originally started as an underground collaboration after Homme finished Kyuss and briefly dropped in on Screaming Trees. Around the same time, he launched the respected studio project Desert Sessions. Queens of the Stone Age built a loyal following with their first two albums, before their definitive breakthrough came with Songs for the Deaf in 2002. Since then, their popularity has remained strong, and for around 20 years they made headlines on social media. festivals around the world. The band is a regular purveyor of great musical experiences, both on recordings and from the stage.

GREAT THIEF (USA)

Over the past few years, American Big Thief has gained a large audience, also in Norway. We know there are many people who want the quartet to return to the island, and in 2024 that will happen. The band started out as the duo of Adrianne Lenker and Buck Meek, before they gradually evolved into the band we know today as Big Thief. His debut album was released in 2016, but many people caught their attention with UFOF’s third album in 2019. The album was released on the highly respected company, 4AD. That same year, they also released Two Hands and continued their revival with the rich Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You in 2022. Since then, two new singles have been released, and there’s good reason to look forward to a new album. and a recent visit to Norway.

The band’s sensitive, slightly reserved mix of indie and folk continues to garner critical acclaim. We believe they will be able to reach even more music fans in the years to come.

WEDNESDAY (US)

North Carolina’s Wednesday blend raw vocals, great songs, and noisy guitars in such a way that Pitchfork called them “one of the best indie rock bands ever.” After starting as Karly Hartzman’s solo project, it is now a full band with a broader, more powerful sound. Guitarist Jake Lenderman has several releases of his own, under the name MJ Lenderman.

Following the previous year’s collection of cover songs, Rat Saw God’s third regular Wednesday album was released in the spring of 2023. The album was very well received and the band is now experiencing increased attention on both sides of the Atlantic. We hope to introduce the group to the Øya audience.
