Maciej Miłosz talks to Norbert Bączyk
The conflict in Ukraine is actually an event we already know about – you wrote together with Kamil Kawalec in the recently published book “History repeats itself”. You offer readers a “journey into the past of the art of war.” What for?
We have noticed that things that people with an interest in the military take for granted as normal in war, are not something new, but are surprising to a large part of the public. This makes it easier for our opponents to wage a propaganda war and create a spiral of fear. That’s why we want to show that certain rules cannot be changed in war, that war is an art governed by certain laws, and that the development of the situation on the front lines can be largely predicted. For me, a very big surprise was the panic after the downing of a Ukrainian missile in Przewodów, which unfortunately ended in the death of two of our citizens. This accidental event is considered to be the cause of the war, and raises the question of whether this was the beginning of the invasion. There is no awareness that armed conflict is a mature phenomenon that takes time – the outbreak of conflict rarely comes as a surprise.
