Penalty bonanza as Fulham beat Wolves in extra time drama
35-year-old Brazilian Willian scored from two penalties as Fulham beat Wolves 3-2 in an intense game in English football on Monday.
The match in London finally ended with three points for the home team. This means Wolves and Fulham are ranked 12th and 14th respectively in the table after 13 rounds of the league. They have the same number of points.
Alex Iwobi gave Fulham a flying start when he sent the hosts ahead after just eight minutes. Midway through the first half, the visitors responded through Matheus Cunha.
After the break there were three penalty kicks. First, Fulham’s veteran Willian had a chance in his own goal, and with his experience, he waited for the goalkeeper and put the ball safely into the net.
Wolves then had a penalty when Hee-chan Hwang was stopped illegally. The South Korean player took it upon himself and kicked the ball into the middle of the goal.
For a long time it looked like the match would end in a draw in London, but in extra time the VAR referee had to come into action again. Referee Michael Salisbury did not award a penalty when Harry Wilson went down, but after seeing the situation on video he changed his mind.
Once again, Willian managed to save the penalty kick, ensuring the three points for Fulham. (NTB)
