Hovland played with Tiger Woods and caught him
Viktor Hovland went head to head with Tiger Woods in the 3rd round of the World Challenge and was one stroke better than him in the round.
Hovland’s round of 70 saw him catch Woods so they were tied for joint 16th among the 20 entrants before the final round on Sunday. Both are equal overall.
The Norwegian came to the Bahamas hoping for a third straight win at the tournament where Tiger Woods competed, but that chance was lost after rounds of 73 on Thursday and Friday. Hovland was two strokes over par and eleven shots behind the leading duo, but he was allowed to play the third round with Woods.
The American legend started with bogeys on the first two holes, while Hovland birdied the 3rd and 5th and was two under par. Woods didn’t want to get carried away, and in half a round of play he had sunk four birdie putts to leave himself two under par.
When Hovland had to endure a bogey on the 9th hole, he was suddenly behind Woods not only in summary, but also for the day.
Woods bogeyed the 11th hole and they were back in a tie. Both birdied the 14th hole, but Hovland’s birdie on the next hole was the decider in a mini duel in Saturday’s round. Both missed par putts on the 18th hole and had to suffer bogeys there.
