Norway’s presented Olympic goal: Eight medals
On Wednesday, the Olympic Summit marked the 100th anniversary of the start of this summer’s Games in Paris. At a press conference, leading sports manager Tore Øvrebø revealed Norway’s medal targets at the Olympics, where Jakob Ingebrigtsen (athletics), Karsten Warholm (athletics), Kristian Blummenfelt (triathlon) and Anders Mol/Christian Sørum (sand volleyball) reign supreme. champion.
– We came to the conclusion that the right ambition is eight medals, said Øvrebø about the Olympics.
This number is the same as the number of medals won by the Norwegian Olympic team in Tokyo.
– We don’t expect everyone to hit 100 percent, so we create qualifying targets based on the medal chances we think we have. And then we found a goal that we thought was realistic, but also gave a little thrill and mobilized energy, Øvrebø told NRK.
Øvrebø also stated a target of six medals at the Paralympics, which start immediately after the Games. Norway won four medals at the Paralympics in Tokyo three years ago.
The following is the Norwegian squad’s medal tally at the Summer Olympics in the last three editions:
In London in 2012: Two gold, one silver and one bronze (four medals in total)
In Rio de Janeiro in 2016: Zero gold, zero silver and four bronze (four medals total)
In Tokyo in 2021: Four gold, two silver and two bronze (eight medals in total)
The Olympics were also held in Paris in 1924. Then Norway won ten medals. Since then, Norway has only won eight or more medals at the Summer Olympics on three occasions: Ten medals in Sydney in 2000, nine medals in Beijing in 2008, and eight medals in Tokyo in 2021.
