Casper Ruud was hit by injury in Rome
Things turned around quickly for Casper Ruud at Roma. After leading 6-0 in the first set, problems arose for the Norwegian who failed on clay.
Ruud finally lost the 2nd round match with a score of 6-0, 4-6, 4-6.
The first two sets were like night and day for Ruud. The score was 6-0 in half an hour with Kecmanovic receiving treatment for a back problem, followed by Ruud having to go to the treatment room in set number two.
The Norwegian appeared to stretch his lower back slightly before leaving the gravel.
– He’s not the type to go out if there’s nothing. “I think he might know something,” said TV 2 expert Christer Francke.
The deciding set ended in defeat, his fourth on clay this season.
The defeat was Kecmanovic’s first on clay. Ruud and Kecmanovic know each other well. They have played several doubles tournaments together, and they have also played on opposite sides of the net several times.
Ruud has reached the semifinals in Rome three times. He debuted in the tournament in 2019 as a qualifier and made it to the quarterfinals. All four losses in major tournaments came against top ten players.
But in Rome this year, it came down to Ruud, who is seen by many as a candidate for the biggest winner at the Roland-Garros Grand Slam tournament in May. (NTB)
