“There is only one Europe,” said Emmanuel Macron. He referred to the work of Milan Kundera and promised that Europe would not be divided a second time – wrote “Le Figaro”.
“We don’t always hear your voices,” Macron admitted. He was referring directly to the words of Jacques Chirac, who criticized Poland’s support for the American presence in Iraq in 2003, stating that Poland and Eastern European countries had “lost the opportunity to remain silent.” Macron humbly – as Le Figaro wrote – admitted: “We missed the opportunity to listen to you.”
“To countries that have never forgotten the insults they received,” Macron “admitted his mistakes,” the French daily said.
“You can rely on France. He is sometimes seen as arrogant or uninterested in the region. “Let’s define together what our Europe will be like, a great democratic power,” Macron said.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine – says “Le Figaro” – the desire “not to embarrass Russia”, to provide it with “security guarantees”, and the too long dialogue that Macron carried out with Vladimir Putin despite its lack of results, made French foreign policy unclear . The lack of clarity on the French president’s policy towards Russia has also thwarted his ambitions to become leader of the European Union.
Macron also spoke about Ukraine in Bratislava. He promised that Ukraine “will not be conquered” and that there would be no peace compromise between Moscow and Kiev. “There is only one peace, the peace chosen by the Ukrainian people,” the president said, rejecting the idea of a “ceasefire” or “frozen conflict” that would only trigger a new war. “We must be prepared for this conflict to continue, and we must be prepared to support Ukraine for a (longer) time. “This means providing the necessary security guarantees,” stressed Macron.
In 2008, France and Germany vetoed Ukraine and Georgia’s entry into NATO. “At that time we were unable to provide a European response. “We provoked Russian revenge by not providing these countries with sufficient guarantees,” Macron admitted.
“I want to put aside all delusions: I do not want to replace NATO with a Franco-German condominium,” the French president said.
