The death of the former lawmaker, who would have celebrated his 83rd birthday in two days, was announced by the Chair of the Senate, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska (KO). “Iwona Śledzińska-Katarasińska died this morning after battling a serious illness,” he confirmed. “An extraordinary member of parliament, a friend who shared his knowledge and experience with everyone. Dear Iwona, it is difficult to describe the pain. You are very important to us. We will miss you,” wrote the marshal.
“Brave, wise, open to the world and change. Sensitive to politics like no one else. We will miss you, Iwona,” stressed Education Minister Barbara Nowacka.
“Iwona, a human being, a history, a friend, demanding and understanding, loving but also critical… without you our world would not be the same. Goodbye darling,” said Dorota Niedziela, deputy head of the Sejm.
Deputy Minister of Education Katarzyna Lubnauer believes that the death of Iwona Śledzińska-Katarasińska is the end of an era. “We knew each other for 30 years. A mine of knowledge about culture and politics. Always had strong opinions and did not hesitate to use them. A loss for Łódź, a loss for politics, for us. My condolences to the family and friends ,” wrote the deputy minister.
Senator from Łódź, Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, also said goodbye to the former lawmaker. “Iwonka, thank you for your friendship, wisdom and sometimes a reasonable distance from the world and people. This world would be different without you – today we say goodbye to the Polish sejm (9th term member of parliament) – Iwona Śledzińska- Katarasińska.RIP” – we read in his post on platform X
“A wonderful friend, wise, brave, always willing to help, Iwona Śledzińska-Katarasińska, passed away this morning. Goodbye, wonderful friend!” – wrote Jacek Karnowski, KO MP and former mayor of Sopot, on the X platform.
Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk stressed that Iwona Śledzińska Katarasińska is a member of parliament “who shares her experience and wisdom with all of us.”
Former Minister of Culture Bogdan Zdrojewski noted that “his most distant characteristic was indifference.” “An extraordinary and very energetic MP in many terms. Always competent, committed with rich emotions. (…) Every topic, issue and question made him believe that this was a significant challenge. I really appreciate his attitude restraint in foreign topics and his personal culture, where elegance was also very important,” recalled the lawmaker.
“Strong, independent, wise. He was a role model for me. It’s a shame,” wrote lawmaker Sławomir Nitras (KO).
Coordinating Minister for Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak recalled that as a member of parliament for several terms, Śledzińska-Katarasińska played a big role in shaping the country’s cultural policy after 1989. “An outstanding patriot of the Republic of Poland and her beloved Łódź. For almost 30 years I can count on his support and advice. A wonderful person who connected people, always with his own opinion, which he was never afraid to express. Goodbye, Iwona!
“Thank you for everything you have taught me, it is an honor and privilege to work with you,” stressed KO MP Jagna Marczulajtis-Walczak.
“Warm, friendly and has qualities I appreciate in others – she says what she thinks straight away. Goodbye, Iwona,” wrote KO Katarzyna MP Maria Piekarska.
MP Jacek Sasin (PiS), who informed of the death of the long-time lawmaker, wrote that he was united in prayer with his family and loved ones.
