He clocked 37.44 during the Norwegian championships in Os.
Thus, Tysse is only 11 seconds behind his own world distance record, which he set in 2006.
– I was told by Stephan (Pläzer, coach) to concentrate on technique and didn’t know how fast the pace was until after six kilometers, Tysse told NRKSport.no.
He said the kilometer time for the first six kilometers only varied by one second.
– In the last two kilometers, I slowed down the time, said the recent Norwegian champion.
Former Olympic champion Valerij Borčin set the previous year’s best time of 38.11 from the meet in Krakow two weeks ago.
Trond Nymark was second in Friday’s NM competition.
He set a personal best of 39.51. For the first time he played under 40 minutes.
The form is not too early
The WC in Berlin will not be held until the second half of August, but Tysse is not afraid that he is in too early a condition.
– We trained a lot at the moment and were surprised that it went so fast, said Erik Tysse to NRKSport.no.
This year’s Norwegian Championship took place at home in Os outside Bergen.
– It’s great to go to NM at home and there are quite a lot of spectators along the field, Erik Tysse told NRKSport.no.
On Saturday, he’ll walk 20 kilometers, but he doesn’t expect to be there much longer after today’s exit.
Tysse’s next big race is in Spain’s La Coruna next weekend, where he will run 20 kilometres.
Victory for Tysse Plätzer
In the women’s class, Kjersti Tysse Plätzer, Erik Tysse’s sister, managed to reach the top in a distance of 5 kilometers with a time of 20.38.
– It’s nice to win, but the day belongs to Erik. He’s really raw. The conditions were good in terms of temperature, but there was a lot of wind. It was difficult to walk, but he made a great impression. We have good results before the competition in Spain in a week’s time, said Tysse Plätzer.
