“You must not have too high expectations. We are not negotiating the end of the war there,” Scholz warned. “At best, this could be the beginning of a process that would lead to direct talks between Ukraine and Russia.”

During the conference in Switzerland, discussions are planned on the safety of nuclear power plants, grain exports, prisoner exchanges and the use of nuclear weapons.
Scholz, who has repeatedly called on European countries this year to provide more weapons to Ukraine, acknowledged that efforts so far have not been enough. “Frankly, our achievements are not enough,” he said.
The German leader stressed that Germany supplies Ukraine with the most weapons, including Patriot air defense systems, tanks, rocket launchers and other heavy equipment. However, he noted the lack of other countries ready to take similar action. “It’s sad because Ukraine desperately needs more air defense systems. Putin clearly wants to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure,” Scholz said.
