Ancient Bohemian Pilgrimage Ústí presents a rich summer entertainment program

This 91-year-old tradition, despite the changes of time, continues the character of the ancient Bohemian pilgrimage. Although the organizers have changed, the fair and its program have been expanded, new fair items have been added as well as foreign culinary offerings. However, the essence of the original idea remains.

A reminder to compare the past and present of this traditional popular entertainment. Like it or not, he must accept the argument of the modified proverb “Different times, different morals!” Therefore, let us enter the vortex of old and new entertainment together.

The original pilgrimage included swings and chain carousels, for both young and old. Today, this entertainment is aimed at small versions of these attractions only for young children. The new offerings are children’s carousels with various painted figures and trains that pass through exotic environments. With a touch of foreign customs, Disney Land is presented, a helicopter with a control desk and a circus illusion with a secret three-story slide. This year’s trampoline with rope protection for high jumps is a novelty.

Favorite attractions for participants of all ages are the traditional Ferris wheel, the carousel with dragon and swan cabins, the inseparable toy cars, and the Crazy Dance, where you can let your soul out of your body.

The space age then gave birth to space flight training simulators. Anyone with enough courage and a good sense of humor could enter the cabin of Tornáda, Kamikadze or Move it with bated breath.

Those who prefer solid ground to these inventions have the opportunity to try their luck in casinos, on the wheel of fortune, and in small, seemingly inconspicuous places, shoot paper roses or figurines at will. This entertainment has an ancient tradition, of course bringing souvenirs obtained from pilgrimages. Surprisingly, the possibility of shooting with this air rifle is in great demand even today.

Other important gifts of Old Bohemia from the pilgrimage are gingerbread hearts and cotton candy. In both cases, the customs are preserved, only the hearts can be bought in different sizes with traditional inscriptions and various new ideas (I will show you the way to heaven, Love, I am losing strength, etc.). Cotton candy is often replaced by popcorn.

The changes came to the gingerbread sweets, which were decorated with horseshoes, animals and various fairytale creatures. The biggest changes were reflected in the variety of exotic flavors with the aroma of Thai rolls and fried noodles. The assortment was also enriched with trdlokafé or trdelník with pellini coffee and, for refreshment, cold fruit and vegetable juices, fruit ice chips with Czech and exotic fruits, frozen yogurt, bubble tea and a new unknown Thai ice cream, SHAVED ICE.

After a tiring walk through the hustle and bustle of the amusement park, a quiet corner next to the square in front of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with demonstrations of ancient crafts and stories from the Thirty Years’ War is a pleasant respite. A definite end is to sit in the Volunteer Firefighters’ Pub with authentic Czech cuisine.
