MADRID (Dagbladet): – That Norway is now experiencing a cyber attack is part of what we must now prepare for, said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Labour) when he met with the Norwegian press in Madrid at 14:40 on Wednesday.
He also stressed that the situation with the hacker attacks on some Norwegian parties “under control”, and the attack so far has not had serious consequences.
– We face challenges, we will face them and continue to provide security to the people, said Støre further, who is currently attending the NATO summit in the Spanish capital.
However he expressed his understanding that the situation could lead to a lot of unrest, and it was clear that he strongly condemned the attack.
Russian hackers attack Norway
Rejecting Svalbard’s claim
On Wednesday morning, at the same time as the hacker attack was taking place, it also became known that Russia accused Norway of violating the Svalbard Treaty by preventing the delivery of food to Russian miners in Barentsburg.
However, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre denied to Dagbladet that the Russian population in Svalbard did not receive supplies from Norway.
– I can completely and completely reject that. Russians living in Svaldbard are safe, receiving supplies and they can be sure of that, said the Prime Minister and added:
– They must have access to food and supplies. The Svalbard agreement means that we see it with different eyes, and we want to emphasize this clearly.
Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt also categorically denied that Norway had violated the Svaldbard Treaty.
– They can add ships there, we have made it very clear. But they cannot transport goods by road. So it’s entirely possible to deliver goods to Russian society, Huitfeldt said, calling statements from Russia predictable.
Huitfeldt: Obviously manipulated
On social media Telegram, the group posted an image of the Secretary of State in what appears to be a Maleficent mask, from the Disney film of the same name.
– This is the type of attack we are preparing for, which is happening at an increasing rate and which we should build to increase resistance in the future, comments Huitfeldt about the cyberattack on Dagbladet.
– Your name and face are used in this attack. Does that worry you?
– This is clearly a manipulated image where I look a lot younger than I really am. “Beyond that, I have no comment,” he told Dagbladet.
