Germany did not physically settle responsibility for the destruction in Poland, for the Polish robbery; I hope the negotiations will go in a constructive direction – said Jakub Kumoch, head of the presidency’s Bureau of International Policy, on Friday, when asked about the issue of war reparations from Germany.
During Friday’s briefing, the presidential minister was asked if he saw an opportunity to get war reparations from Germany and whether President Andrzej Duda planned to join the diplomatic campaign on the issue.
“I think it’s clear to every Pole what happened in 1939-1945 in Poland and I think how we all stand here, and like everyone who saw us understand that this issue was never handled properly” – he replied.
“Germany is not physically responsible for the destruction in Poland or the robbery of Poland” – Kumoch stressed.
He noted that the issue of reparations is now in the hands of the government and hopes to be negotiated. “You have to approach him calmly; you also have to approach him with the German side” – he said.
“I hope, however, some reflection and a certain understanding that this is not a problem that can be solved by hitting the table, as the government of the Federal Republic of Germany has consistently done. I hope that these negotiations will proceed in a constructive direction” – said Kumoch.
On Thursday, at the Royal Palace in Warsaw, a report on the losses suffered by Poland as a result of German aggression and occupation during World War II was presented. It was reported that Poland’s total loss was PLN 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million, which amounted to USD 1 trillion 532 billion 170 million. (PAP)
