Erling Braut Haaland scored in his seventh game in a row when he fired home from distance in Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Wolverhampton on Saturday. It was his 14th goal for City, 11 in the Premier League and three in the Champions League, and at the moment no player is more celebrated.
Haaland was one of 11 players in Solbakken’s squad with full time last weekend before the national team break. The manager of the national team can be pleased that several others also come to the meeting feeling good. Alexander Sørloth scored for Real Sociedad, while Fredrik Aursnes scored his first goal for Benfica in a big win.
Morten Thorsby is back after an illness and helped Union Berlin consolidate their position at the top of the Bundesliga table. Sander Berge provided another assist as Sheffield United secured top spot in the English Championship series, while Kristoffer Ajer made a Premier League comeback for Brentford following his injury problem.
Ola Brynhildsen, the only possible squad debutant, scored as Molde took another step towards league gold.
Worries
At the same time, it is uncertain whether national team captain Martin degaard can contribute in the matches against Slovenia and Serbia, which will determine whether Norway will be group winners, move up to division A and secure the 2nd seed in the EC draw.
degaard missed Arsenal’s win over Brentford with an injury he sustained in training, and on Sunday Solbakken suffered the withdrawal of another central player from the June collection that took Norway to the top of the table. Stefan Strandberg will not be ready after the injury.
It has also raised concerns that some people with disabilities are struggling with playtime. Five of the players in the squad were unused reserves for their team at the weekend, four of them defenders. Leo stigård, who was Strandberg’s partner in June, has only played 90 minutes for his Napoli side and has watched Serie A’s leading side’s other game off the bench.
Julian Ryerson, Birger Meling, Fredrik Bjørkan and Kristoffer Zachariassen (called after Strandberg’s death) also sat on the bench for their team on Sunday.
In addition, two players in the current 26-man squad have no clubs. This goes for rjan Nyland, who was Solbakken’s first choice in goal, and Omar Elabdellaoui. The latter is in the squad for the first time since the serious eye injury that nearly ruined his career.
