Sobolewski was asked what PiS’s approach to EU institutions is now, in the context of the words of President Jarosław Kaczyński in July, who said “the end of this good” and the subsequent statements of government representatives emphasizing that the real enemy is Russia and everything must be done to prevent conflict with the EU ends.
– At the moment, the most important thing for us is what we are facing, namely the energy crisis and the economic crisis caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and in particular how it can be eliminated or minimized for Poland. One of the elements that can help offset the impact of the energy and economic crisis, among others, is the money from the COP. That’s more than PLN 160 billion. Our current activity is aimed at ensuring that this money finally reaches Poland – answered the PiS politician.
At the same time, he noted that the government “with the European Union, the EC, and actually with those who stand behind the Commission or President Ursula von der Leyen, namely with Germany, we want to talk on the basis of a balanced partnership – even in terms of improvement.”
KP money
When asked if he believed that after the passage of the law on the Supreme Court, funds from KPO would flow to Poland, Sobolewski said that “he is quite optimistic in this regard, because he takes into account the experience so far in our relationship with the European Commission, on the KPO issue.” as well as other EU funds.”You could say our confidence is limited,” he added.
He expressed hope that the implementation of the solutions contained in the law “will be a new milestone for this” story that never ends “to find a positive ending”. – I hope the adoption of the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court, and then it is signed by the president, but this is of course the presidential decision – will end a certain stage in this never-ending story and we will be able to focus on other things that are equally important and which now require attention, he said.

He considered that “neither the Hungarian nor Polish governments are the favorites of the European Commission”. – We are well aware that all activities and disturbances related to KPO are political, not substantive – he said.
Sobolewski, when asked whether Poland would receive funding from KPO before parliamentary elections, stated “hopefully that after the adoption of the amendments to the Supreme Court Act and the submission of the application for payment of the first tranche of money from KPO, this tranche will come to us – in response to a bill that will submitted by Poland from the implementation of projects that have already started which are part of our agenda”.
post-election money
Politicians were asked whether Poland would receive at least some of the funding from KPO before the election or only after. – Due to the fact that – as I said – I am a moderate optimist, I assumed that maybe after the election, regardless of who won it. Of course, I believe the United Right will win the election. However, I like to be surprised and it might surprise me that some of this money will come in early. One more thing to say – The National Reconstruction Plan is a 7 year money spread. So it’s not that these funds will flow to us in full this year – he answered.
When asked whether the Polish economy would have survived without the KPO funds, Sobolewski rated both the Polish budget and the economic situation “good”.
“It’s not that there’s anything critical or dramatic going on. Obviously with the money from the KPO it’s certainly easier. However, if it turns out – although I don’t assume that it will – there won’t be any money, then we have to deal with it in a different way. We have to be prepared for that and we are preparing for different scenarios. However, even looking at our current bond profitability, where – let me remind you – there is no demand for Polish 10 year bonds to date, right now, despite the fact that there is very high demand, its profitability has increased significantly. This is due to the fact that financial markets perceive the situation, i.e. related to how Poland behaves in the face of what is happening beyond its eastern borders and how it is treated by the main world players, namely the US – said Krzysztof Sobolewski.
