“Read how Polish chauvinism, directed not only against Germany, but also against the Soviet Union, thrived and played an important role in the outbreak of World War II. And find out how 14 million Germans were forcibly expelled from their homeland in the winter of 1944 /45 or tortured and killed in death camps such as Łambinowice, Jaworzno or Świętochłowice” – this is how the German magazine “COMPACT-Geschichte” advertised its publication.
The magazine addresses issues described as follows in the table of contents: “Germans behind barbed wire: deaths in Polish internment camps”, “Sword movement from Warsaw: Polish war plans against Germany” and “Terror against minorities: hatred of German, Jewish and Ukrainian” ” – these are just a few titles, according to “Rzeczpospolita”.

AfD works closely with PiS
The magazine is affiliated with the right-wing populist party Alternative for Germany (AfD). In the 2017 elections, the party entered the Bundestag as the first Eurosceptic and anti-immigrant party in history. He had many controversial activities related to the promotion of Nazi Germany. For example, Elena Roon, an AfD candidate in Nuremberg, sent a photo of Hitler to members of the party’s Facebook group with the caption “Adolf, please come back! Germany needs you!”
The AfD and PiS sit together in one of the five groups of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly. These are the European Conservative Group and the European Democracy Alliance (EC/DA).
As we read in “Rzeczpospolita”, an important role in it was played by Arkadiusz Mularczyk, PiS MP and deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is the head of the Polish delegation and former co-chairman of the entire assembly. At the same time, he fought for war reparations from Germany, and on September 1 last year presented a report on Polish losses.
COMPACT-Geschichte has a sharp narrative that spoils the sense of reparation. “The government in Warsaw is demanding $1.3 trillion in war damages from Germany: a huge amount, many times the federal budget, including the important coal and industrial zones of Upper Silesia.
As Mularczyk announced, the publication will be analyzed, and “then we will ask AfD politicians to respond,” he said.
Norbert Kleinwächter, deputy chairman of the AfD club in the Bundestag and member of the delegation of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly, told Rzeczpospolita that the magazine “COMPACT-Geschichte” has nothing to do with the AfD and does not act on its behalf. – Publisher Jürgen Elsässer is also not a member of the party, but he is trying to influence some of the party members. His views were inconsistent with those of the AfD, he stressed, adding that he regretted the publication.
