World War II veteran Jake Larson insists that the social network TikTok is not just for young people. At the venerable age of 99, he bequeathed his war experiences to his followers. In the video the old man showed him old photos, menus, magazines, but also some of the equipment he wore as a soldier.
Fifteen year old warrior
Jake joined the National Guard at the age of fifteen and was afraid they wouldn’t take him. He lied to officers about his age and plans to leave – he was accepted. During his service in the army, Jake took part, for example, in the Allied landings in Normandy, which took place on June 6, 1942.
“My grandfather was helping plan the ‘high-secret’ invasion at the time,” he said in one from the first video granddaughter of senior McKael, who created her grandfather’s account on TikTok. “I thought we were going to land on Omaha Beach. Instead, we had a problem with a lot of people, there wasn’t much space left and we couldn’t get over the cliff.” Jake describes from his own experience landing in Normandy.
Jake dug a hole in the beach, hiding from the flying bullets. “It was our only concern at the time. I turned a little behind me was another soldier. I asked him if he would shoot too, but I didn’t get an answer. When I looked at him for a while, he was shot in the head.” depicts the horror of seniors. According to information Daily mail Jake is the only surviving member of the unit he fought in Normandy.
Young story about love war
Jake survived the entire operation and then World War II without endangering his health. “I think I’m the happiest man in the world.” he remembers. “There must have been intervention from above, thanks to which I was lucky along the way. I came out without a single scratch,” said the veteran proudly. Jake also recalls his memories of war in a book called The Happiest Man in the World, which he published last year. After the war, the man worked as a veterinarian.
On TikToku Jake has hundreds of thousands of fans who are always delighted with the colorful descriptions of the war experience. “This world is a better place because of you.” one follower commented. “Strong and brave, this generation is a hero,” written by another user under the video.
