– It would be absolutely fantastic to fight on the “home court”, said the Norwegian boxing star.

The title fight against Berghult will be Brækhus’ first in the «super welterweight» heavyweight division. The 27-year-old Swedish boxer took over the belt at the WBC on November 21 last year. It is this belt that is at stake on August 13.

Very motivated

– The fact that I jump straight into a new World Cup match in a new heavyweight, makes me very motivated. I was the first woman to become the “undisputed champion”. Being able to become world champion in two different heavyweights is probably the closest thing to achieving that feat, and is something I really want to achieve, says Brækhus.

Brækhus was last in the ring on March 14, 2021. Then lost for the second time against Jessica McCaskill. The defeat came after Brækhus started his career with 36 straight wins.

– Berghult is a good boxer. I’m taking a risk in a title fight soon at the new heavyweight, but I don’t feel I have the time or the motivation not to take on such a challenge. “I belong in the ring, and when I get the chance to fight for the World Cup belt, I take it with both hands,” said Brækhus.

Brækhus, 40 years old, was born in Colombia.
