BBC: Liverpool will hand over VAR audio recordings
Liverpool have submitted a formal request to gain access to audio recordings of the VAR referee’s discussions surrounding Saturday’s cancellation error, the BBC reports.
The referee’s video came into focus when Liverpool’s Luis Diaz was banned from scoring after just over half an hour in the Premier League’s game away to Tottenham on Saturday night. Tottenham finally won 2-1.
After that, the referee association PGMOL stated that the cancellation was wrong, and the goal should still stand. The error was described as “significant human error”.
Now Liverpool has officially asked to hand over the audio of the VAR referee’s conversation regarding the case which resulted in a blunder. It is not yet known whether this request will be fulfilled.
On Sunday, Liverpool issued a statement in which the club strongly criticized the error.
“We accept the pressure given by the referee, but VAR should reduce the pressure. “Therefore, it is unsatisfactory that sufficient time is not taken to ensure that the right decisions are taken,” the report said.
“That the error has been categorized as ‘significant human error’ is unacceptable. Everything must be reviewed to find out what happened. This is vital for the future of VAR as it impacts all clubs. “All learning must be used to ensure that such mistakes will not happen again,” the club further wrote.
At the same time, Liverpool announced that further steps would be taken in this case. (NTB)
