Storting President Masud Gharahkhani (Ap) meets with one of America’s most prominent politicians tonight.
The Democratic leader in the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is meeting with Gharahkhani in Zagreb this evening. The war in Ukraine and unrest in Iran were the main topics during conversations in the Croatian capital, Dagbladet said.
82-year-old Pelosi was one of the main targets when protesters in the United States attempted a coup on January 6, 2021. As Speaker of the House of Representatives, the largest chamber of Congress, Pelosi is one of America’s most powerful elected officials.
Both Pelosi and Gharakhhani were in Croatia in connection with a meeting of parliamentary leaders.

The Labor Summit said the meeting showed that the US sees Norway as an important actor in stormy times like this.
– The United States is Norway’s most important ally. Here in Zagreb, parliamentary leaders from more than 30 countries are present to show solidarity with Ukraine. That we were able to hold this meeting in a busy program is an acknowledgment of the close ties between our two countries, Gharahkhani told Dagbladet.
He was clear that the meeting left a mark, and that the war in Ukraine was also a major topic of conversation between the two behind closed doors.
– Pelosi is a heavyweight boxer with solid experience that I have a lot of respect for. As a woman, she has paved the way. Both of us, as parliamentary leaders, have been involved in Ukraine. The rain of bombs in Kyiv and throughout Ukraine reinforces the importance of our country’s continued contribution.

Norway is one of the countries providing the most weapons to Ukraine by size of its national pre-war arsenal.
The situation in Iran, where several hundred demonstrators were killed during protests against the moral police, was also a topic. The Gharakhhani family from Iran to Norway.

I mentioned that I hoped to visit New York in March in connection with a meeting of the UN Women’s Commission.
