Curated tour in Český Krumlov will present “The magical world of theatrical masks and disguises”

Visit the Magical World of Masks and Theatrical Masquerades. The Český Krumlov Castle Administration has prepared a series of curated tours for this season as part of the NPÚ Glorious Year of Festivities project, which also includes an on-site exhibition called the Renaissance House, which offers a comprehensive view of theatrical performances and masquerades.

This tour will take everyone interested in delving deeper into the world of baroque entertainment to the famous Masquerade Hall, then along the Cloak Bridge through the baroque theater to the Renaissance House. This is the repository of the baroque theater, usually inaccessible to the public, and hides the rarest relics of aristocratic entertainment from the 18th century. On display will be costumes from operas, comedies and ballets, original sets, unique scenery and acting props, as well as various interesting things reminiscent of the entertainment of the Český Krumlov estate owners. The exhibition is a continuation of the large theater exhibition held in the castle in 1958, for which the famous sculptor Vladimír Preclík created mannequins for costumes inspired by characters from the Masquerade Hall. Preclík’s life-size mannequins have been expertly restored for this year’s Glorious Year project and will be presented to the public again after more than half a century in their original costumes from the 18th century.

The nearest special tour will take place in a few days 5/7, 6/7, 8/7 Tours always start at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Other tour dates listed can be found on the castle website: www.zamek-ceskykrumlov.cz.

Entry fee is 280 crowns. The number of participants for this tour is limited, so to be sure, book at: ceskykrumlov@npu.cz.
