Digitalization Minister Karianne Tung (Ap) created a fake X account in her name. On Monday, someone mistakenly reported that Gro Harlem Brundtland (84) had died.
The information does not imply the truth, Brundtland’s adviser, Jon Mørland, told VG.
The Ministry of Local and County Government informed VG that it was a fake profile.
– We are aware of the fake profile and are working to remove it, communications advisor Jenny Kanestrøm Trøite told VG.
– This is a fake account created in the name of Minister of Digitalization and Administration Karianne Tung. We have reported the fake account to NSMNSMNSM is an abbreviation for National Security Authority, the ICT security expert body in Norway.and is now working to remove it.
Several versions
Fake X Message is available in three versions. The first one reads as follows:
“Bad news. Former Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland died suddenly a few minutes ago”
The message was also published in an English version with “URGENT” and “BREAKING NEWS” as introductions.
In one version on X/Twitter, it is said that Jon Mørland confirmed the death, and is therefore not true.
– Obviously it’s fake
Digitalization Minister Karianne Tung did not want to reveal how long she had known about the profile.
– Obviously it’s fake. This not only happened to me, but also to other people. I have a voice that can refute, but many people don’t have that opportunity. It is important that the profile is reported. Identity theft is illegal and never OK, he told VG.
– This shows that new technologies have challenging aspects that can be used to distort reality. Therefore, it is important to report and submit complaints if there is a basis.
Tung was pleased that it was relatively easy to understand that the message about Gro Harlem Brundtland and the account it came from was fake.
– Are you going to report this case?
– I have to see if there is any basis for doing so, concludes Tung.
