Djokovic won the anniversary match – ready for the quarter-finals at Wimbledon
Novak Djokovic continued his incredible winning streak at Wimbledon with a win against Hubert Hurkacz. Thus, the 36-year-old is ready for the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam tournament.
The Serb sealed a further advance in his 100th Wimbledon match 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 6-4.
The match kicked off on Sunday night, and Djokovic won both first sets in tiebreaks. However due to the rule that tennis cannot be played in the All England Club facilities after 11pm, the match was postponed until Monday afternoon.
When play resumed, the match was nearly tied, but the Pole eventually won the set when he broke Djokovic to go 7-5 up.
As such, the tennis star was knocked out in the fourth set, where Djokovic hit back hard and broke Hurkacz to take a 4-3 lead. From there, the Serb was able to easily serve at 5-3 and 6-4.
In the quarter-finals, Djokovic met world number seven Andrei Rublev. He defeated Alexander Bublik in the 4th round match.
Djokovic is the reigning Wimbledon champion and has won the last four editions of the tournament.
Immediately after that, Chris Eubanks also advanced to the quarterfinals. The American made his big break this season and won an intense match against world number five Stefanos Tsitsipas after five sets. (NTB)
