– Uncomfortable

After contacting the emergency room, he was eventually told it was due to a water parasite in the bathwater in Sagtjern.

Elverum Municipality also has this confirmed on their websitewhere they also wrote that the city’s emergency room had received a lot of inquiries this weekend.

– This is what we call itching while swimming, and it is caused by the growth of parasites in the water. It’s harmless, but unpleasant with a rash and itching that goes away on its own, says the city’s chief physician Knut R. Skulberg.

Granheim Hansen himself had received some points after swimming, but far less than his daughter.

– It hurts. Then it started itching. Those kids have more than me, so I understand that they feel uncomfortable. Lilje also had chickenpox, so she has a rash and is not feeling well now, her mother is now sighing.

Explain

The municipality of Elverum explains that the parasite comes in when the bath water is warmer, and most commonly affects young children playing in shallow water, where the water is hottest.

Symptoms will go away in one to two weeks.

– Most have a rash with red dots. Some people may experience allergic reactions with fever, swollen arms/legs, general condition disturbances. You can use an itching ointment or you can give allergy medication at a dose based on age, says the city’s chief physician Skulberg.

He advised young children not to swim in Sagtjern this week, and said you should swim from the floating dock, and shower or dry yourself well when you wake up.

– I’m very happy that the city government took this and said no. Because it doesn’t look good, and is best avoided by children, says Granheim Hansen.

The head of the city said that the parasite disappeared by itself when the temperature in the water dropped. Something that is expected to happen in the coming weeks when lower temperatures are reported.
