City set for Club World Cup final – Høibråten own goal
Manchester City were without Erling Braut Haaland against Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan, but still won 3-0 in the Club World Cup semi-finals on Tuesday night.
Thus, the Manchester club is all set for another final this year. There they met the winner of the match between Brazil’s Fluminense and Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahly.
However, Norway’s Marius Høibråten had no margin when he tried to clear a cross from Matheus Nunes, instead putting the ball into his own net, one minute into first-half stoppage time.
– Very unfortunate, very unfortunate, comments Vegard Aulstad on VG+ Sport.
– If he knew better, he would have let it go, because none of the City players could threaten, added Kjetil Rekdal.
After the break, things got worse for Japan when Mateo Kovacic scored his first goal for Manchester City.
– Then the match was decided there, concluded Rekdal.
City weren’t finished yet, because just seven minutes later Bernardo Silva sealed the result for the light blue team.
Bobb jumped in
After an hour, Oscar Bobb was also allowed to come on from the bench and provided some good details.
– City must build new players into the team. They lost Ilkay Gündogan this summer, and Kevin De Bruyne and Silva are starting to mature, commented Rekdal.
Previously, the player from Norway has appeared in five Premier League matches, three Champions League matches and one cup match. He also joined the national team last year.
Asian Masters
Urawa Red Diamonds are the defending champions of the Asian Champions League. Starting from the new year, Per-Mathias Høgmo will take over as head coach.
City, on the other hand, managed to achieve “The Treble” and are ready to compete for their fourth trophy this year. Perhaps without Erling Braut Haaland, who has missed City’s last four games with a stress injury to his foot.
Haaland is not expected to be in the starting Eleven on Tuesday after he was absent from City training on Monday. According to the Manchester Evening News, the Norwegian has been left out of the blue jersey squad at the Club World Cup.
