Troubled crows, rebels, “bad guys” and bastards.
All words have been used to describe Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios.
The 27-year-old has had a turbulent tennis life, to say the least. Sports scandals, as well as non-sports, have characterized most tennis players’ careers to come out. Despite his extraordinary talent, he has been wiped out and separated several times.
But this year, the whistle sounded different. Now some critics have turned their backs on Kyrgios.
– He has never been better, tennis expert Christer Francke concluded to NRK.
Thank you girlfriend
After several years of mixed results and a break from the sport, Kyrgios has really found great form recently. Since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, a truly groundbreaking tournament for the Australian, he has won the ATP 500 tournament in Washington and lost just two singles matches in 17 attempts.
One loss came in the quarter-finals of the ATP 1000 tournament in Montreal against Hubert Hurkacz. Two rounds earlier, he had beaten world number one Daniil Medvedev.
– If he continued at it, he would soon be in the top ten, he was pretty good at it. He will definitely win a Grand Slam one day and is good enough to be number one in the world. Whether he can stay to play so many weeks after week remains to be seen, said Francke.
Kyrgios has previously pointed out that his varied performances are due to a lack of motivation and that he is not yet “hungry enough”.
Now she is thanking her boyfriend for her career transformation.
– I have a partner with me now with whom I see the future and who I have to take care of. So I feel that my motivation is much higher than before, Kyrgios said according to Sportskeeda.
Kyrgio’s fire is called Costeen Hatzi. The two announced their relationship last December, and Hatzi often watches Kyrgios tennis matches. It clearly had an effect.
– I have the best girlfriend in the world. I only have so many people around me, they just support me. He’s been a big part of my development, says Kyrgios according to Australians Who.
The 27-year-old does not have a head coach and has his family as his closest supporting device on matchdays. Francke believes this has been the recipe for success.
– He has a team with his dad and girlfriend. He seemed calmer, he wasn’t at war with the media and the crowd. They have pulled him back into training and become more serious – more positive in life. There are Kyrgios who are more harmonious today than last year.
– Modern John McEnroe
Kyrgios is known as a player who lets the bullets heat up during matches. Over the years, he has received fines for, among other things, breaking his racket and acting against referees on several occasions.
The opinion of the tennis circus about Kyrgios is divided.
– I think it’s good to have players who are a little bit off the A4. Those who make it out of the box, without being unsportsmanlike. He is the modern John McEnroe, expert Francke says.
Norwegian tennis star Casper Ruud is one of several to have washed dirty laundry in public with Kyrgios
– I thought he was an asshole. Everything he does is entertainment. As Rafa (Rafael Nadal) told me: I can go out in the next game in just my underwear. It will be entertainment, but it is not good entertainment, Ruud said on the tennis podcast “Smash” in 2019.
