Pochettino on the start of Chelsea’s crisis: – We had to improve
The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino and the sudden influx of new players has not solved Chelsea’s problems in the Premier League. The London club only achieved five league wins in 2023.
Sunday saw another setback at home to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea squandered their chances and played with ten men in a 0-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
The team is 14th with just five points after six rounds. Pochettino’s recruitment and other big summer spending sprees have yet to come to fruition.
– Football players want to win, but mistakes will happen if you have young players with no experience. Obviously we are not satisfied. “We have to finish this as quickly as possible and we have to grow as a team,” said Pochettino after the match.
Chelsea got American owners last spring. They took over the club after almost two decades with Roman Abramovich, and in the last 15 months huge sums of money have been spent on new players. However, Chelsea is struggling hard.
In the calendar year 2023, the teams in blue have managed just five wins out of a possible 29 in the Premier League.
– They hoped to build something good with this project, but they were disappointed. At the same time, they had to believe in the plan. We have to do the work and trust each other. “We have the team we have, and we can’t change it now,” said Pochettino of his owner’s reaction to the ongoing crisis at Chelsea. (NTB)
