On July 20, the soccer World Cup kicks off, and this time the championship will be broadcast on NRK and Viaplay. They must share the battle as brothers.
– We’re looking forward to the biggest football adventure of the summer – and with Norway a solid outfielder. Whether on TV, radio and online, Norwegians can enjoy soccer, says Espen Olsen Langfeldt, sports editor at NRK.
Media houses will each broadcast half of the matches on TV, while Viaplay will broadcast the championship in its entirety digitally. NRK matches can also be watched on NRK TV.
Norway will already be in action in the opening match of the championship, where girls Hege Riise meet host nation New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Thursday 20 July at 09.00 Norwegian time. Matches are broadcast on NRK1, NRK TV and Viaplay. The other two teams in Norway’s group are Switzerland and World Cup debutants the Philippines.
NRK commentator Carl-Erik Torp had high expectations for the championship. He thought Norway would progress from the group stage.
– Women’s football is growing rapidly. The coverage and quality of what we saw at EC in the UK last year is at a new high. In WC, we have more of the best teams, but also some weaker national teams from smaller countries. The Norwegian team certainly has surprising quality. It will be a big disappointment if we don’t grow from the group, said Torp in regards to the launch of the WC plan.
NRK sent its best team of commentators to the championship, with some notable voices. Christian Nilssen, Andreas Statabrun Smith and Patrick Sten Rowlands will comment on the game for the state channel, with Carl-Erik Torp as expert commentator.
On Viaplay, Gunnhild Toldnes will officiate from the inner court. With him are football expert Sigrid Heien Hansen and commentator Kasper Wikestad, who will comment on the Norway game.
More than one million tickets have been sold for the championship. The new world champion will be selected in the grand final at the Australian Stadium in Sydney on Sunday 20 August at 12.00 Norwegian time.
