Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Alexander Gauland and Tino Chrupalla of the AfD party, reported the daily portal “Berliner Zeitung”.
On Tuesday, a reception was held at the Russian Embassy in Berlin to celebrate the anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Germany in May 1945. Among the guests were German politicians, including Former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and his wife So-yeon Schroeder-Kim, AfD politicians Alexander Gauland and Tino Chrupalla, Klaus Ernst of the Left Party and former secretary general of the SED (GDR East Germany’s ruling United Socialist Party) Egon Krenz, logged the portal.
AfD leader “Chrupalla gave (Russian) Ambassador Nechayev a gift as a token of gratitude for his liberation from Nazi rule,” the text read.
Klaus Ernst told the Berliner Zeitung that he came “despite the complicated situation caused by the war” because “Russia played a decisive role in defeating fascism.” Without Russia’s victory, her life would be different, “that’s why it’s such an important day.”
“The reception was attended by diplomatic representatives from CIS, Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, as well as representatives from China. Western ambassadors did not attend the reception as a sign of protest against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” wrote the “Berliner Zeitung”.
After ending his political career, Gerhard Schröder became an employee of the Russian energy sector. He worked at Nord Stream AG, Nord Stream 2 AG and Rosneft, among others.
