Russia wants to completely block Ukraine’s grain exports and cause world hunger, the head of Ukraine’s Odessa region, Oleh Kiper, said on Monday. Russian forces have carried out a series of attacks on Odessa and other Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea over the past week.
The goalkeeper also said that the number of injured in the Russian attack on port infrastructure in the Odessa region, which was carried out in the evening between Sunday and Monday, had risen to seven. One of the injured is in critical condition. Four people were injured previously reported. The night before, from Saturday to Sunday, the Russians hit Odessa with rockets. At least one person was killed and 22 injured, including four children. 25 monuments were also damaged.
A series of attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, including Odessa and Mykolaiv, started a week ago, on the night Monday through Tuesday. The aim of the shelling was grain export infrastructure. On Monday, July 17, Russia finally withdrew from a grain agreement made with Ukraine, Turkey and the United Nations, which allowed the export of Ukrainian agricultural products via the Black Sea.
Under the agreement, Ukraine exported more than 32 million tonnes of corn, wheat and other grains. According to the United Nations, this contributed to a reduction in food prices on world markets. Recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports have affected world grain prices, Reuters reports.
