Haaland was named player of the year at the PFA gala
Erling Braut Haaland is on an exclusive list as the winner of the PFA players’ association’s highest award. He was honored for his outstanding debut season in English football.
Its distribution took place in Manchester on Tuesday. This is the first time that a Scandinavian has received the PFA title as player of the year.
Haaland scored 52 goals in 53 games in his first season at Manchester City. He was instrumental in the club’s run to glory in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
This is the third time a City player has been selected as the winner of the PFA. Kevin De Bruyne received the award in 2020 and 2021.
Martin Ødegaard is also among the nominees for his big game at Arsenal. The midfielder scored 15 league goals in the 2022/23 season. De Bruyne, John Stones (Manchester City), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) and Harry Kane (Tottenham) are the other players in contention for the award. Of course, both Haaland and Ødegaard are in the team this year.
There is also Guro Reiten (Chelsea) and Frida Maanum (Arsenal) in the women’s super league. This trip has been very important for the Chelsea team that won their fourth successive league title last season. Frida Maanum’s Arsenal finished in 3rd place. His good form still earns him a place in the team of the year.
Last night, Haaland was also nominated for the Young Player of the Year award. It got Arsenal star Saka.
The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) has distributed awards in English football since the 1973/74 season. The 50th anniversary was marked at a gala party Tuesday. (NTB)
