Obstacles in the DPR are not new. When the left tried to push through his proposals in 2010, it was the ODS, and especially its then chairman Petr Nečas, who remained in the way from January to March to such an extent that he managed to block the House of Representatives. On the other hand, ODS faced obstacles when dissolving the government after the 2010 elections.
And so on – when the right is in power, the left is in the way. And when the left rules, deputies from ODS or TOP 09 postpone the meeting, the opposition always finds sufficient ways to do it.
As well as seven-hour speeches, popular methods include, for example, pauses in club meetings, hundreds of amendments that no one understands after a while, proposals to change the agenda of meetings, or sometimes simply blocking the House of Representatives. on Wednesdays and Fridays from nine to two, which is the only time when, according to the rules of procedure, the final form of an act may be voted on in a final third reading.
But things seem a little different in the DPR today. While the opposition parties used to hope that they would soon be in power and that the overzealous barrier might return to them in the next term, part of today’s opposition, namely the SPD, suspects that they will not simply rule. And because ANO fights for equal voters, it cannot be abandoned.
And one cannot fail to notice the prestigious battle between Andrej Babiš and Tomio Okamura for the title of the most vocal speaker in the lower house. The SPD chairman recently became the Czech record holder for a speech duration of seven hours and seven minutes, but his performances still fall far behind the world’s best competitors in the discipline. Of course, the mutual struggle of opposition leaders could also lead to a significant entry of the Czechs into the world table.
The government is now aware of the problem. He already has several options for dealing with SPD and ANO barriers. Jindřich Šídlo will tell you what’s in the introductory video.
