Heavy rain forecast in Eastern Norway and Northern Norway – VG

INTENSIVE AND STRONG: Heavy rains are expected on Friday July 1st.

Heavy rains are expected in Eastern Norway on Friday. A yellow hazard warning has been sent.

Published:

– Heavy rains are expected in the eastern region. There is great local variation in intensity and quantity, and the weather can change rapidly. The location of precipitation is uncertain. Locally, precipitation is expected to pass 15 millimeters per hour, according to forecasts from meteorologists.

On Friday afternoon and evening, heavy rains are also expected in parts of North Troms, West Finnmark and in the Finnmark highlands.

– Some heavy rain fell through Eastern Norway on Friday throughout the day. There might be some thunder and lightning as well. We’ll see if there’s so much lightning that we send out a flash alert, but for now we’re just following developments, on-duty meteorologist Magne Ovhed at the Meteorological Institute told VG.

LIGHTNING WARNING: Red markings on satellite imagery indicate lightning.

Eleven municipalities in the east of the country were also hit by a power outage on Friday morning. In Oslo, Viken and Innlandet, 1,091 customers were without power at 10:34 am on Friday. It shows Elvia power outage map.

– There is no indication that this was due to bad weather, says communications consultant Vegar Stokset in Elvia.

– In Oslo, there was talk of an explosion at the substation in Kjelsås, where we will now ground the substation before the smoke divers enter. But elsewhere there is talk of planned maintenance.

Wet business

The situation is also humid in northern Norway. It is now starting to form a number of clouds that will grow bigger and bring heavy rains, Ovhed informed. The rain will be heavy and intense, but short-lived:

– Can pass pretty quickly, in an hour. It often happens that in such heavy rains, it does not rain continuously. It comes in jerks and snatches.

Heavy rain can provide 25-30 millimeters of rain in an hour, but normal rainfall is 15-20 millimeters.

– Today I think maybe it will be 15 millimeters during the day in northern Norway and the same in eastern Norway, said Ovhed.

– We didn’t expect the strongest rain this time.

The beginning of a cold and humid holiday

For farmers who want to soak the roots, not necessarily that desire will come true.

– It can be root soaked locally, but it takes a little more to fill properly. Then it should come from 30 to 50 millimeters of rain within a week to get proper root soaking. But next week looks like a good opportunity to refill the water, state meteorologists promise.

VRMANN: Meteorologist Magne Ovhed at the Meteorological Institute provided VG with details of summer weather.

– How can a joint vacation take into account the weather?

– This would be a cool start to the holidays. With unstable weather and heavy rainfall. For those who want sunshine and warmth on a holiday, this might not be the best start.

– Will it be better later this summer?

– Could be, but where we have reliable forecasts, it looks like the next week is unstable.

Max 20 degree

West Norway, Southern Norway and Central Norway will also have mild weather and rainfall over the weekend and next week.

– The heat we experience may last the longest in northern Norway, but it dissipates first in Nordland. Because after Sunday, only Finnmark was left. And next week the weather will be quite wet and cold. There may be snapping with hot air at Finnmark, but it’s not stable.

– What’s the temperature?

– If we start in Oslo, the temperature stays at 20 degrees, but not higher than that for a week. The hottest period is over now, says Ovhed.

RAIN ON THE STREET: This map shows how it will rain at nine o’clock on Friday morning, July 1.

In Western Norway, temperatures will drop from 25 degrees on Friday July 1 to well below 20 degrees throughout the week.

– In northern Norway, the temperature is 25-27 degrees in Bod now in the first few days, but from Sunday it will be from 15 and even below 15 throughout the week. So this is a big change, say meteorologists.

– It’s just to find a raincoat?

– Yes, there will be a real change in the weather. If you’re going out to sea or in the mountains, you should heed the warnings if you’re going to do something that doesn’t require too much wind.

With heavy rain forecast, it’s essential to check the weather forecast if you’re going to be walking in the mountains, Ovhed encourages.

– Mountains are a bad place if there is lightning. Both in open landscapes and especially on mountain tops. Then you become very open, warns meteorologists.

“Bitihorn” finally launched

Although headed for root soaking in Eastern Norway, it is still dry in the mountains.

In mid-May, VG wrote about how a very snow-poor winter east of the watershed creates such dry conditions that reservoirs and water are nearly empty. Freelance photographer and nature lover Tom Helgesen later predicted that the shuttle Bitihorn would not launch and start operating at normal times.

POOR SNOW IN MAY: This shuttle in Jotunheimen will operate from 24 June. This year it doesn’t bring in tourists until July 3.

The boat was unusually high on the land. According to the route program to Jotunheimen and Valdresruten Bilselskap (JVB), which operates the ship, will start operating on June 24.

JVB has now confirmed that Helgesen’s prediction has come true. The launch was delayed, but now everything is back to normal:

– The boat arrived on the water today. It starts in regular service on Monday July 4th, Helge Kvame, CEO of satisfied JVB, told VG on Friday.

– It’s not something abnormal. It just so happened that there wasn’t enough water until around July 1st. This is how it is when you are high in the mountains and dependent on a regulated water reservoir. Both snowmelt, temperature and precipitation affect.
