Since November 2022, the Supreme Audit Agency has been investigating how public television spends people’s money. Importantly, TVP is supported not only by permit fee revenues, but also by revenues from the state budget, which it receives as “compensation for the loss of permit fee revenues.” Together in 2017-2022, TVP SA received compensation from the APBN in the amount of PLN 7.2 billion, and in 2023 – PLN 2.3 billion.

The Financial Audit Agency found violations of the principles of legality, reliability, purposefulness or economy in Telewizja Polska SA’s expenditure.

Despite the huge financial outlay, dlast year, the business generated losses of more than PLN 50 million – informs TVN24, which obtained the report before publication.

In a post-inspection statement obtained by the tvn24.pl portal, NIK” assesses the company’s activities negatively Telewizja Polska SA in the audited period.

NIK calculates that in 2021, Jacek Kurski (former president of TVP – editor’s note) received a “total” remuneration of PLN 642.2 thousand, including: PLN 369.9 thousand “fixed remuneration” and PLN 272, PLN 3,000 “variable remuneration to achieve management goals in 2020” – the portal informs.

The highest average monthly remuneration – as written in NIK – is obtained by directors and their deputies. In 2020, the average was 23,000. PLN (ranges from PLN 11,000 to PLN 64,000), in 2021 – an average of PLN 24,500. PLN (from PLN 13 thousand to PLN 69.5 thousand), and in 2022 the average will be PLN 26.3 thousand. PLN (from PLN 13.4 thousand to PLN 55.7 thousand) – the portal calculates.

The total remuneration paid to the ten TVP employees with the highest annual income based on employment contracts and civil law contracts – according to the Chamber’s calculations – is: PLN 7.2 million in 2020, PLN 8.5 million in 2021 and PLN 9.2 million in 2022 – added TVN24.

The portal added that the director of the Television Information Agency, Jarosław Olechowski, earned the most. In 2020, he earned PLN 965.5 thousand. PLN, in 2021 – PLN 1.1 million, and in 2022 – PLN 1.5 million.

“HR and payroll policies implemented in the Company during the review period and the scope of civil contract settlement with employees and colleagues affected by many significant irregularities, also from a financial point of view and there are circumstances that indicate cases of action in situations of conflict of interest and relationships that could resultcorruption phenomenon“- we read in the report of the Supreme Audit Agency.

The provision of remuneration by the TVP management board in excess of the maximum level for a position specified in the remuneration regulations has led to a significant disproportion in the remuneration of employees employed at TVP in the same position – argued the Financial Audit Office.

At the end of last year, Jacek Kurski joined the World Bank and represented Poland. The former TVP president received the nomination from the president of the National Bank of Poland, Prof. Adam Glapiński. He was deputy executive director of the Polish-Swiss Constituent Assembly. The new position will pay him a salary of up to PLN 1 million per year.

“I took a job according to my education and managerial experience as an Alternative Executive Director at the World Bank, aware that this would mean giving up some public activities or political ambitions. I always thought there was no life outside politics. Yes, right. I know that I will also serve Poland well here,” wrote Jacek Kurski on Twitter.
