Trym Klingenberg was coach of the alpine national team for 17 years and traveled the world with athletes during this period collecting around 100 medals in WC and Olympics. He then worked for a ski center in Hemsedal, where his family lived, until they took the moving load to Drøbak. Until recently, the 55-year-old was technically in charge of Snø’s indoor facility in Lørenskog. He will now replace Teresa Storrud Visedo as general manager of DFI.
– You are the general manager of incoming DFI. What kind of leader are you?
– I try to be a manager who gives a lot of trust and makes the most of my employees’ skills
– What will be your most important priority?
– As a manager of a sports team, it’s important to keep the arena as good as possible. Assist all sports with organization so that athletes, coaches and managers can spend as much time as possible on their activities. Especially also new sports activities that establish themselves.
– On the other hand, I am also passionate about saying that it is activity that creates joy, togetherness, and mastery. Everyone who wants to participate must be able to participate regardless of finances, skills and social aspects.
– How important is sports and sports to you?
– Sport and sport have always been in my life, although the last 20 years have been about sport, I can’t do without it. I love watching a good technical sports show more than who wins.
– After traveling the world with the alpine national team, what are your biggest memories?
– In addition to all the great people and unity, it had to happen when I stood my ground at the Olympics in Lillehammer and the guys took a triple.

– Do you have any good stories from this time?
– I can try to explain how much overcoming and improving one’s own skills means to a top athlete: We race in Vail, Colorado. Aksel Svinndal began to break through. In this race, I think he’s number 5. Big 5 getting the cash prize. As usual, we didn’t have enough time to catch the plane to the next place. Aksel got out of the car to collect the prize money from the race secretariat, at which point one of the slightly more experienced guys shouted that he should take his money too. Aksel didn’t understand because he wasn’t in the top 5. Then the experienced runners replied, I won here last year, maybe they are safe.

– What do you prefer to eat and drink for dinner?
– Wood-fired pizza with a splash of red wine
– Any hobbies and interests outside of work?
– Yes, take a boat now as we live in Drøbak (everyone who’s ever been in a boat knows how much time it takes). Otherwise, we try to go to the movies, concerts and theaters.

That I collect ceramics. Drøbak has a great history when it comes to ceramics.
– What would you never do?
– Journey to the moon. I like my feet planted firmly on the ground.
