The thirty-nine year old Brno native is coasting in Znojmo. For over a year, Martin Komzák was head of orthopedics at a local hospital. He stabilized the team of doctors in the department, managed to reduce the waiting time for surgery, and has been using the hospital’s network bank since June. In the summer, he also left the main seat for two weeks to treat Czech athletes at the Universiade in China.
Last year in May, he joined the main department of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Znojmo hospital Martin Komzak. A new professor of kinanthropology, who studies various forms of human movement, praised his work after a year on the job. The department managed to shorten the waiting time for surgery under the leadership of this Brno native and father of five. Whereas in other hospitals people wait up to three years for joint replacement, in Znojmo they have surgery after sixty weeks, that is, roughly one year.
News in the field of orthopedics
The population is aging and increasingly active in sports, making surgery necessary even in young people. That is why in hospitals they often do endoprostheses on the knees and hips or replace the joints of the hands, feet or wrists. But according to mainstream doctors, orthopedics is growing fast and doctors are constantly using new methods and materials. For example, what is new is nanoscopy, which is the examination and treatment of joints with a camera and miniature instruments. “We are also planning to start orthobiological treatment. That is, treatment with the body’s own preparations. This involves using plasma, hyaluronic acid and other means to promote healing of ligaments, meniscus, tendons,said the Mayor.
Since early summer, orthopedic surgeons and surgeons from Znojmo have also started using the tissue bank, which the hospital set up just over a year ago. “Since June, we have used seven bone grafts. Not only injuries and surgeries, grafts are also used for planned orthopedic procedures on the spine, leg corrections, etc.Komzak explained.
He looked after Czech basketball players in China
At the turn of July and August, Martin Komzák goes with young Czech athletes to the Summer World University Games in China. Along with two other doctors, he oversaw an expedition of one hundred and fifty members. He was primarily in charge of the medical supervision of the gold-winning team of basketball players.
“Work was pretty much done around the clock, and that was in off-road conditions, but I don’t think anyone from the expedition will ever forget this trip, especially because of their historic success. This was the first Universiade team sport gold medal for thirty years,” he added.
