Frankfurt win dramatic Europa League final: – It would be too much
Former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey became the scapegoat for Rangers as Eintracht Frankfurt and Jens Petter Hauge emerged victorious from the shootout.
– I do not expect. We are my champions of the south! exclaims Kevin Trapp in an interview with Viaplay.
It was Rafael Santos Borré who set up the decisive penalty kick. Thus, Germany won the Europa League final, and was ready for the Champions League.
Jens Petter Hauge was substituted after 69 minutes on Wednesday and is the first Norwegian to win the Europa League.
– You can’t put words into something like that. This would be too much, Hauge told Viaplay.
– We have shown this throughout the season, especially in the Europa League, that we come back and fight. It’s a team winner, he added.
Rangers were the lead, after Joe Aribo sent Scotland the lead. But Frankfurt spent just ten minutes to reply when Rafael Santos Borré equalized from close range. Thus, both teams only have 20 minutes of regular time remaining.
After that, no one managed to get the ball into the net, and the match had to go to extra time in Sevilla.
Rangers had a great chance to take the lead late in stoppage time, but a wild save from Kevin Trapp ensured it had to be decided on a penalty kick.
