Linette and Hurkacz advanced to the second round of Wimbledon

Seed number 17. Hubert Hurkacz advanced to the second round of the Wimbledon Grand Slam. The Pole won with Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6:1, 6:4, 6:4. The meeting lasted one hour and 40 minutes.

Hurkacz’s next rivals will be Jan Choinski from England or Dusan Lajovic from Serbia.

Coach Craig Boynton’s previous six Grand Slam matches were tight five-set battles. This time he finished the meeting quicker.

The first set was the performance of the 26 year old from Wrocław. From 1-1, he won five games in a row and took the first step towards the second half.

In the second and third games, Hurkacz dominated the match on the court. He served very well, and in each of these sets he was enough for one break.

Pole recorded 15 aces and only 13 unforced errors. The statistics are much worse. He only had two aces and 23 unforced errors.

Hurkacz played Ramos-Vinolas for the third time and earned his third win.

Linette Promotion

Seeded with the number 23. Magda Linette advanced to the second round of the Wimbledon Grand Slam. The Pole won with Switzerland Jil Teichmann 6:3, 6:2. The meeting lasted one hour and 25 minutes.

The first set was balanced. With the score 4:3 to Linette, the match was stopped for nearly two hours due to rain. After returning to court, the Polish woman looked much better.

Immediately after the restart, Linette broke Teichmann’s 121st world ranking, and minutes later she closed out the first game. In the second half, the 31-year-old Poznań player quickly took a 3:0 lead and controlled the match until the end.

It was their third meeting and Linette’s second win. Switzerland won in 2021 in Chicago, and Poland in this year’s United Cup tournament.

Linette’s next opponent is Barbora Strycova. The experienced Czech defeated Belgian Maryna Zanevska 6:1, 7:5.

Strycova, 37, ended her career two years ago, but resumed it in April and is currently ranked 623 in the world. In 2019, she reached the semifinals of Wimbledon. Linette had never played with him before.
