On Monday, Magnus Carlsen (31) was more open after the drama Hans Niemann (19) in recent weeks.
– I believe that Niemann has cheated more and more recently than he publicly admits, Carlsen wrote in a press release on Twitter Monday night.
Former top player Hikaru Nakamura (34), who now plays online chess, replied that Carlsen had more on his mind but did not say more. The American, who has criticized Niemann in the past, said the Norwegian pushed the 19-year-old into a corner:
Shattering verdict: – More cheats
– It’s clear that Magnus has more on him, he has evidence, but who knows what, Nakamura said in a video on Youtube.
Now Dutch grandmaster Anish Giri (28) is revealing more about the “beach party” played between Carlsen and Niemann in connection with the Chess Champions Tour promo video before the FTX Crypto tournament.
Huge pressure: – Have proof
According to the short video on Youtube which Giri had posted on his own channel, Carlsen was supposed to have a black cut, while Niemann started off with a white one. Carlsen definitely won in a few moves.
– He destroyed it completely, said Giri.
The Dutchman said he doesn’t remember exactly the correct order in terms of moves to move, but what he shows should be very close to what happened.
Despite participating in FTX Crypto, Carlsen considered withdrawing before the Sinquefield Cup which took place shortly after the tournament in Miami.
– When Niemann was invited at the last minute to the 2022 Sinquefield Cup, I seriously considered stepping down before the tournament. I finally chose to play, wrote Carlsen in a press release.
What happened between the two tournaments is unknown.
