Nový Dvůr Arboretum starts the season. And here it is already blooming! | Oppa | News

Remnants of snow in some parts of the arboretum still remind of winter. Blossoming bushes or even snowdrops point to the approaching spring. However, nature takes time to wake up.

Markéta Urbanová, garden curator, Arboretum Nový Dvůr: “We were standing near a bush called witch hazel. This is actually the first floral greeting. They have started to bloom in January. And they were happy until about March.”

The garden is also illuminated by the soft pink and fragrant flowers of Bodna viburnum. Now in March, rich bulbous flowers – snowdrops and tulips will be added, then it is the turn, for example, of magnolias or golden rods, which are popularly called golden rains. Apart from that, you can also enjoy many other trees originating from the five continents. You will find more than 7,000 species of plants here.

The local park also has a large collection of Rhododendron plants, which are one of the richest collections in the Czech Republic.

Markéta Urbanová, garden curator, Arboretum Nový Dvůr: ‘The biggest season is during May. Even in early June you can see the huge rhododendrons at the back of the garden.’

In summer, visitors to the botanical gardens can look forward to lavender strings, which feature several varieties of this plant, whose flowers come in different colors. From white to pink to classic purple.

Markéta Urbanová, garden curator, Arboretum Nový Dvůr: “We plan to grow lavender on the terrace that was once used for the winter crops of the greenhouse.”

The new look in the greenhouse will be completed over the season. The existing exhibition area will be expanded and a lake with a small waterfall will be created here. This place will become the domain of orchids and ferns. The illusion of a tropical forest is underlined by vines.

The Nový Dvůr Arboretum is one of the most visited areas of the Silesian Regional Museum. More than 20,000 visitors come here every year.
