German Chancellor Olaf Scholz accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of violating the values of civilization. Russia is deliberately abandoning the international community, he said in Hamburg on Friday. “Putin cannot win the aggressive criminal war against Ukraine. And he’s not going to win it,” he said.
Scholz warned that if the Russian president succeeded in implementing his plans, we would face international chaos. The German chancellor also accused Putin of being irrational. As he explains, hatred for a free Ukraine is clouded by the economic and social development of his own country. “Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is the greatest disaster of our time,” he said.
The head of the German government also warned of the global consequences of a war started by Russia. “All global food security is seriously threatened by Russian aggression,” he said.
Message to the nation
On Sunday, May 8, Chancellor Olaf Scholz will address Germany in a TV message devoted to the situation in Ukraine. On May 8, many countries celebrate the anniversary of Germany’s unconditional surrender in World War II.
As the DPA news agency noted, Olaf Scholz’s predecessor, Angela Merkel, rarely spoke to Germany in TV messages. The traditional New Year’s message is an exception.
