Poland lost a dozen million people, including more than 5 million killed or killed, some of whom remained abroad forever. In 1938, Poland’s population was estimated at over 35 million people. The first census, the postwar census of 1946, numbered less than 24 million people
– said the head of government in his speech.
The prime minister noted that people often talk about millions of people and forget that behind everyone is an individual, personal tragedy and a war nightmare.
There is no tomorrow for the little boys Marianka, Henia, Tadzio Banasiński here, from Wieluń, aged 7 to 12. Three brothers died that day. September 1st. Let’s think when we talk to other people about the Second World War about the fate of all those who died, about the fate of these peasants, girls.
– He says.
And our poet cries out: it is not in our power to forgive in the name of those who were betrayed at dawn. Betrayed at dawn. Just like the residents of Wieluń and the residents of hundreds of thousands of cities and towns in Poland
He continued.
That is why we must remember this day, keep the truth, think and keep healing, and this must be the main premise that guides us when we think and remember the Second World War today.
– The prime minister pointed out.
World War II Memorial
Morawiecki thanked everyone for preserving World War II memories, “including those who tried to lie to date”.
One that, when I was young, didn’t fit in my head how much history could be distorted
– added.
Today we all must guard the truth, on behalf of the victims, we must guard the truth, the truth about the past, also to build the future. because we have to go into this future together with those who died during World War II, died, were killed in cruel ways, animals by the German invaders
– he emphasized.
German crime machine
This story must be seen from beginning to end, to destroy the traces of evil; we must realize that the entire German crime machine took part in the annihilation of Poland, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in Wieluń on Thursday during celebrations of the 83rd anniversary of the outbreak of World War II.
On September 1, 1939, in the morning, the attack of German bombers on the All Saints Hospital in Wieluń began. 32 people died in the attack – patients and hospital staff. It is believed that they were the first victims of World War II in Poland.
The prime minister said that Wieluń was a victim of Germany’s policies of intimidation and destruction. He quoted Adolf Hitler’s words to the generals of the Wehrmacht: “do not let mercy enter your heart, do extermination.” He stressed that Poland had to be killed and Poland would be almost completely destroyed. He points out that this plan was carried out with brutal consistency in various criminal acts from the first hours of the war, also in Wieluń and the surrounding villages, where the inhabitants were burned alive. In this context, the prime minister also mentioned, among others, AB’s actions; He stressed that when the Germans realized that the fate of war might not be in their favour, they started Action 1005 – the action of destroying the trail.
The whole story must be seen from beginning to end, to destroy the traces of evil, to pluck, burn, dig up the corpses, and grind the corpses so that there are no traces. Therefore, when we recall those days, we must realize that the entire German crime machine participated in the extermination of Poland.
– said the head of government.
